The Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP) originated in 1985 when the Institute of British Payroll Management (IBPM) was formed. In 1998, IBPM merged with the Association of Pensions and Superannuation Administrators (APSA) to form IPPM. In 2001, IPPM purchased PAYTrain to form a wholly owned subsidiary called IPPM Education Ltd, the training and business arm of the organisation.
In 2005 the Board decided to combine the two parts of the organisation under a single head and appointed a new Chief Executive, Maurice Cheng, to oversee the combined operation. In 2006 the Institute changed its name from Institute of Payroll and Pensions Management (IPPM) to Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP). |
